Camp Twin Lakes: The $50 Weekend Veteran Families Call a Lifeline

Kate LiptonAugust 27, 202650:42

When a veteran carries invisible wounds, the whole family carries them too, and most support stops at the one who served. Kate Lipton of Camp Twin Lakes explains how Family Warrior Weekends give the entire military family a weekend of rest, community, and fully accessible outdoor recreation, all for fifty dollars.

What you’ll learn:

  • How Family Warrior Weekends work: twice a year, about 20 families each, and $50 per family covers lodging, meals, and every activity for the whole weekend (travel is not covered)
  • Who qualifies: open to military families nationwide through an approval process, with a wait list and priority for combat and trauma experience and all women veterans
  • How Camp Twin Lakes and the SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center work together on recovery from traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress

Who it’s for:

Veterans and military families living with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, or the daily weight of caregiving, and anyone looking for a meaningful place to volunteer or give.

Guest + credibility:

Kate Lipton is a recreational therapist, yoga instructor, and personal trainer who joined Camp Twin Lakes in 2009 and has run its military family programs since 2010. She also serves part time with the SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center, and Camp Twin Lakes now operates three year-round campuses serving families across the country. In Kate’s words, that’s why we exist.

Primary CTA:

If you know a military family that needs a reset, share this episode with them; one weekend can matter more than you know.
